Synthase is a biotech start-up company, NZ-owned and based at the Ruakura Science Campus in Hamilton. The company was formed in 2015 using IP from the University of Arizona, specifically relating to plant enzymes that comprehensively repair damage caused by oxidation of lipids (more commonly referred to as fats) contained in the membrane of cells. It is very active in mammalian biology.

  • Oxidation of lipids in cell membranes is a primary trigger for oxidative damage to cells.
  • Lipid oxidation causes a cascade of effects leading to cell death, damage to tissues and organs and a raft of human health consequences.
  • Lipid peroxidation is a key point for intervention in breaking this cycle of damage.

Aloxsyn® can block the pathway of damage caused by lipid oxidation maintaining and restoring cellular function, health and vitality. Extending the life of cells has very broad and exciting applications, from agriculture to medicine.
