The awards were presented yesterday in an event at Parliament, and included awards for the scientists, teachers, and communicators. Of note is STRmix, which won the top Science Prize worth $500k. STRmix is a product that has been commercialised out of the Institute of Environmental Science and Research (ESR), a Crown Research Institute. The technology helps separate and interpret DNA from multiple people, and is primarily targeted towards use in forensics. It has been successfully sold worldwide, and there are big opportunities for the technology to develop and help solve more crimes.
