Self-sterilising Coatings at University of Canterbury

Another technology that we have been keeping our eye on – nanotechnology coatings that can sterilise surfaces by killing organisms like bacteria and viruses without relying on standard antibiotics or antibacterial chemicals. Research at the University of Canterbury has been working towards developing and commercialising these coatings for environments like hospitals, where their Titanium Oxide-based material could reduced hospital-acquired infections and the incidence of superbugs like MRSA.
