With a renewed emphasis on producing spinouts from top UK universities, a recent analysis has shown who is leading the charge, pouring one billion pounds of equity investment into this sector in 2017 (based on minority stake equity investments only!) Publicly traded IP Group is ahead of the pack, which has implications for us here in New Zealand – last year, the University of Auckland was included with the Group of Eight Australian universities in an agreement that unlocked hundreds of millions of commercialisation investment funding from the IP Group.
